The Story County Genealogical Society has helped purchase many genealogy titles for the Ames Public Library.

In addition to the genealogy reference section, the Ames Public Library has city directories for Ames and Story County; telephone directories; and a set of yearbooks for Ames High School. The Library provides access to the genealogy databases HeritageQuestOnline and Ancestry Library Edition. They also subscribe to the magazines Family Tree Magazine and Internet Genealogy. The local newspapers, dating to 1877, are available on microfilm (later issues have been indexed) and in digitized format.


                       **Ancestry.com Library Edition (FREE) is available at the Ames Public Library.**

The Heritage Room (located on the second floor, access through business office)  contains a collection of  historical items pertaining to Story County and Ames.

 


The Ames Public Library is also home to the Farwell T. Brown Photographic Archive, a collection of original photographs, postcards, advertisements, and news articles which chronicle the history of Ames, Iowa.  This collection, searchable by keyword, can be viewed online.
